We get asked all the time…how can we help when we come to the island? Easy as Sunday Morning…here are our favorites!
Founded in 2010, the Turks & Caicos Reef Fund is the only active environmental advocacy organization in the TCI.
It is an all volunteer-run organization that provides funding for education, research and conservation programs to individuals, organizations and agencies that help to preserve and protect the environment of the Turks & Caicos Islands.
Their goal is to have at least 85% of all funds raised through voluntary contributions from divers and snorkelers visiting the Turks & Caicos Islands directed to the Fund’s programs.
Programs include Adopt-A-Coral where they are growing coral in nurseries, you may fund boat moorings so dive and snorkel operators don’t tie off to coral, East Caicos monitoring project and Report a Lionfish to name a few!
Anyone wishing to donate or assist the TCRF in any way can contact them through their website, www.TCReef.org. Scuba divers visiting the islands are encouraged to make a $10 donation through the purchase of a dive tag that can be attached to their dive gear to show their support. Snorkelers visiting the islands can show their support through the $5 purchase of a pink or blue silicone wristband. Look for the TC Reef Fund link on our dive operators page here and the snorkel operators page here.
The Tired Stool Project
This project was born out of concern for the impact that garbage has on our lovely islands. Locals Tito and Atekah Seymour have rescued tires that would otherwise be buried on the island and turned them into works of art. (Tires are not biodegradable)
So they started The Tired Stool School Give Back Program. Genius. You’ll see one of these in the entrance of Villa Capri.
You can make an impact on the island by donating these beauties to a well deserving teacher and students. Currently there is a waiting list of teachers who would love these in their classrooms. Atekah told us that kids are loving going to the library to read because they get to sit on a very cool stool. How amazing is that?
The cost for a stool is $65...you can make payments at their store in Providenciales or you can pay via PayPal...(For PayPal payments there is a $10 additional fee added to the cost because of the fees they get charged for the transaction).
They also collect school supplies and distribute them to different public schools all over Turks And Caicos Islands.
If you would like to make a donation please feel free to drop off donations at their store on Industrial Road on the way in or out of Chalk Sound. It’s next to the brewery tour, pull in where you see the blue Turks and Caicos flags! Their email address is email@example.com
TCSPCA - Turks and Caicos Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals
What happens when you donate to the TCSPCA? One of their major priorities is to ensure Spay Neuter clinics in tandem with 'Wellness Clinics' are run on every inhabited island that makes up TCI. They have been supporting Spay Neuter for cats, dogs as well as other animals since 2001.
The TCSPCA runs S/N clinics regularly all year round in the Provo clinic and they have now expanded to other islands. With the help of fantastic volunteer vet teams from the US they make annual visits to all of the family islands including Grand Turk, South Caicos and North & Middle Caicos where currently no vet care exists. The residents from these small less populated islands are totally dependent on the TCSPCA to provide vet care for their pets and the Grand Turk Chapter of the SPCA is doing a remarkable job of helping as many animals as they can.
Side note: follow them on Facebook and Instagram. From time to time they need people to bring puppies off the island to their furever homes. TCSPCA pays all fees and someone meets you at the airport to take the doggies away. It’s awesome to do, we just did it ourselves to JFK!
