We get this question all the time, “What is a potcake?”
Potcake is the name given to the dogs of the Bahamas and the Turks & Caicos Islands. It came about because the locals fed the caked remains of the cooking pot to the dogs. As generations have passed, Potcakes have evolved into a breed which is extremely smart, loyal and loving.
Potcakes are rescued from around the islands of the Turks & Caicos. Litters of puppies as well as individual pups are found wandering without their littermates. They may be found by tourists while they are out exploring, or locals in their backyard or while working on construction sites.
At Potcake Rescue their mission is: "To reduce the number of homeless potcakes on the island"
Their headquarters are located in Saltmills Plaza in the Grace Bay area of Providenciales. Pop in, meet some puppies and learn some more about what they do. They have a constant stream of puppies needing socialization and adoption. You can go by and take a puppy out to the beach - they will give you everything you need, you just need to supply some TLC.
If you are traveling back home, from time to time the TSPCA or Potcake Place need people to bring these lucky little pups to their new furever homes. Follow them on Facebook where they will post their requests!
